Whirlpool and Mercedes-Benz partner with Nest
Nest, which is owned by Google, makes thermostats and smoke detectors that can communicate with the objects around them.
They continue to expand their reach beyond thermostats and smoke detectors.
Nest is welcoming developers from other companies to integrate their services or devices with their products through a new developer program in an effort to make homes smarter. Partnerships are already in place with Mercedes-Benz, Jawbone and Whirlpool, and more are sure to follow. Here are a couple of examples of the results of this partnership:
As you drive your Mercedes-Benz home, your car can notify Nest of your estimated arrival. The Thermostat will then adjust the thermostat to start heating or cooling so that the temperature of the home is just right as you arrive.
A connected Whirlpool washing machine can adjust the start of the wash to take advantage of energy saving programs based on the peak energy periods.
Nest founder and head of engineering Matt Rogers explains, “What we’re doing is making it possible for your Nest devices to securely interact with the things you already use every day. Things like lights, appliances, fitness bands and even cars.”
